How it is made

The abundant quality in Marseille soap is attributed to its traditional production method and high-quality ingredients. Marseille soap is made using a process called saponification, where natural oils are mixed with an alkaline solution. This combination creates soap and glycerin . The traditional method of making Marseille soap involves boiling this mixture for several days in large cauldrons. This process allows for thorough mixing and aeration, resulting in a soap that produces rich, creamy foam when used. The soap is left to cure for several weeks after production, allowing excess moisture to evaporate and the soap to harden, making it long- lasting in scent and use. Overall, the combination of traditional production methods, quality ingredients, and curing time all contribute to the exceptional properties of Marseille soap. Authentic soap bars from Marseille can be recognized by their typical stamp that says ‘Fabriqué a Marseille’.
